“What does a move cost?” is the most-asked question in this trade — and the worst answered. Many sites quote €300 to €3,000 so that nobody clicks away. We do it differently: our calculation logic is public, and the same logic drives the fixed-price calculator you can try yourself.
Guide prices by flat size
The typical case: a move within town (up to 20 km), second floor walk-up on both sides, two movers and a van:

The four price drivers
1. Flat size
More rooms means more volume, and volume eats time: a one-room flat is loaded and set up again in roughly two and a half hours, a six-room house takes the whole day. That is why we ask about rooms first — not square metres, which nobody estimates honestly anyway.
2. Distance
Travel up to 20 km is included. Beyond that, every kilometre counts twice: driving time on the clock plus €1.20 for fuel and wear. Frankfurt–Fulda is a good 100 km — routes like that we always calculate as a fixed price, never on the clock.
3. Floors and the lift
A lift cuts the carrying time roughly in half. Without one we count 25 minutes per floor and side. A fourth-floor Altbau flat in Frankfurt’s Nordend is simply more work than a ground floor in Fulda-Ziehers — and the quote says so openly.
4. Extras
Packing service (plus two hours), furniture assembly (plus one hour), the no-parking zone (application, fee, signs): all doable, all priced beforehand. The rule stands: what is not in the quote costs nothing.
Seven honest ways to save money
- Pick a flexible date. Month-end and Saturdays are what everyone wants — the same work, a full calendar. Mid-month, Tuesday to Thursday, things are calmer.
- Pack yourself. Packing your own boxes saves around two hours. With us that is a concrete number, not a feeling.
- Declutter before the survey. What is gone, nobody has to carry. We can clear things out for you if needed — cheaper is whatever got sold or given away first.
- Drive the small stuff yourself. Twenty boxes in your own car are twenty minutes off the clock.
- Order the no-parking zone early. The application needs a few working days. Leave it too late and you pay for parking-search time and frayed nerves on moving day.
- Dismantle furniture yourself, if you know how. A Pax wardrobe is no witchcraft — and we will happily do the final adjusting at the new wall.
- Show everything at the survey. Cellar, attic, the bicycle in the yard: what we see is in the price. What turns up later costs extra. Honesty here is literally worth money.
Fixed price or hourly rate?
The hourly rate looks cheaper because the number is smaller. But it shifts every risk onto you: a jam on the A66, a broken lift, rain — it all runs on your clock. With a fixed price, the risk belongs to us. We build in a buffer and stay competitive anyway — otherwise we would have a problem, not you.
Either model is only serious with a survey. Anyone naming a “fixed price” on the phone without having seen the flat will correct it on moving day — and then it is not one.
Common questions about moving costs
Are there hidden costs?
No. The fixed price in the quote is the final amount. If the scope changes — more furniture, a different floor — we agree the adjustment before any work continues. Our terms say exactly that.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
No. Payment is due after the move is completed, by bank transfer or in cash.
Do weekends or public holidays cost extra?
No — we have no calendar surcharges. Saturdays simply book out faster; the price stays the same.
